An art restorer by trade, Diane doesn't just live in the past - she also appreciates living traditions and savours. Follow her trail through her adopted city, with pizzas, rum baba and melting balls of mozzarella.
Pizzas, rum babas, sfogliatelle, "caffè del nonno", Diane takes you on a journey of discovery of Neapolitan delights.
Naples features great food, generous portions and gourmet coffee. You'll soon discover that the rural roots of the Neapolitans are very much alive. Everyone has family in the neighbouring Campanie and many regularly forage in the family vegetable garden. Every family grows its own vegetables, and also produces its own liqueur (from grappa to limoncello), its own olive oil or wine. So when a trattoria menu features "vino della casa" (house wine), it's quite possibly indeed home-made. Prices are very reasonable - you can eat for a few euros (the simplest pizza in a pizzeria is never over 5 euros). Don't expect to find spacious terraces in this sun-drenched city though. In hot countries people mostly prefer to eat indoors!
